Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the U.S. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips with commentary that analyze the depictions of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which investigates representations of women in narratives from popular culture. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding sexual harassment and attack on women and other minorities in online spaces she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Alongside being a popular public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based program that would examine the gender roles in games and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
