Hanks later played Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animation film Toy Story (1995). The following year, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the rise and decline of a popular 1960s group. He also took on the role of a music producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine said that his performance was "charming" and the majority of experts agreed that Hanks performance earned him a place among the best romantic comedy actors of his time.
